# Hand a new customer account to its owner

Illustrative SOP v1.0. Adapt, test and approve before use.

## Owner

Customer Success; the operations lead maintains the procedure.

## Trigger

An account is ready for onboarding.

1. Check the customer record with fictional data and identify the required fields.

2. Assign the next owner and describe the expected first action.

3. Add an exception for missing information before requesting review.

4. Ask a teammate to follow the published SOP and record a handoff note.

## Before starting

A sample account, agreed scope, contact and one available receiving owner. Start with one handoff instead of designing a large procedure library.

## When to pause

If the founder is the only person who knows the next action, leave the case open and write that decision into the procedure before expanding the process.

## Completed sample record

Illustrative account S-104; scope confirmed; receiving owner customer success lead; next action welcome call; readiness blocked until the contact is supplied.

## Acceptance check

Have a second teammate follow the ordinary and missing-contact paths. Record the questions that still require the founder.

## Maintenance trigger

Review after the first few handoffs and whenever responsibility changes. Add a support escalation or onboarding SOP only when it addresses a real repeated task.
